UEFA Launches Disciplinary Investigation Involving Chelsea's Pedro Neto After Altercation on PSG Youth Assistant.
European football's governing body has opened disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea's Pedro Neto after he shoved a sideline assistant in a Champions League defeat by PSG.
The 26-year-old, Pedro Neto, knocked the boy during added time of Wednesday's last-16 fixture at Parc des Princes – a match in which Chelsea lost heavy defeat – which caused him falling from his seat.
This provoked an altercation between the opposing squads.
Uefa said proceedings have been instigated against Neto on grounds of "unsporting behaviour" as per the official rules.
"The relevant committees will decide on this case in due course," European football's governing body stated.
Neto expressed regret over his actions and blamed being caught up "in the emotion of the game" when he sought to regain possession of the match ball.
"This is out of character for me. Emotions were running high and I want to apologise. I offered him my jersey as a gesture. I deeply regret it - I owe him an apology," Neto explained to the media.
"My French is not very good, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha intervened and said to him that it was a momentary lapse.
"Eventually he saw the funny side and I gave him my shirt apologising many times. He understood it was a mistake and was satisfied with how it was resolved."
The London club host PSG in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, following a match against Newcastle to Stamford Bridge this weekend in domestic competition.
