The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
