The Actress Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out against the Trump government, worried it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions across the country.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Says Lawrence
In a recent interview, Lawrence shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars have no real impact whatsoever on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both Republican and Democratic contenders over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.
Past Statements
In 2015, she commented that a Trump victory could represent “the end of the world” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “because I think she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will take all necessary steps to defend abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years feels different,” commented Lawrence of his leadership. “Because he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
Latest Film
Jennifer Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s movie in which she portrays a recent parent who struggles with her emotional state in the countryside. At a press conference for the film in the film festival, the star commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
Lawrence added by expressing that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation now. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She sought to redirect outrage about the situation to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she advised, seen by observers as a reference to the declaration supported by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her work in Die, My Love. Even though Ramsay has disputed the narrative being seen as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, she shared that she did relate to aspects of her role’s experience after the birth of her youngest child, soon after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety about my child,” she explained, “imagining every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a drug called the prescription and I continued it for a short period and it really helped.”
Career Moments
Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned about the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the movie while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
