Former Cincinnati Bengals and Texas Wide Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Ranch Incident
Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after sustaining severe burns in an accident on his property near his Texas hometown.
Details of the Accident
Per a release from his family, Shipley was using a piece of machinery when it caught fire. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was after he sustained severe burns over a large area of his body. He reached a ranch employee, who drove him to a nearby medical facility. Subsequently, he was airlifted to a hospital in Austin, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
“Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Severity of the Injuries
It has been reported that Shipley received full-thickness burns to over one-fifth of his body. His brother noted that the primary risk at this stage is infection and lung complications.

Shipley earned All-American honors while at Texas in 2009. During his college career, he amassed 248 receptions for 3,191 yards and 33 scores. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.
Drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he had stints with multiple NFL teams over his professional career. He officially retired in 2014.
