Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
